Shelton House Cottage Garden
49 Shelton Street, Waynesville
The historic Shelton House, built in1875 for the Stephen Shelton family is the site of one of our larger gardens – The Shelton House Cottage Garden. Flowering perennials, hostas, azaleas and herbs are just a few of the varieties to see as you walk through the garden surrounding the front, side and back nook of the house.
This garden is cared for by approximately 8-10 MVGC members except when an occasional “all hands on deck (or in the dirt)” is needed and requested. The Shelton Barn, also on property, is where we are fortunate to hold many of our monthly club meetings.

Mib Medford / Library Gardens and Topiaries
678 S Haywood Street, Waynesville
The Haywood County Library in Waynesville is the site of two gorgeous gardens . The Mib Medford Garden honors the life of Mib, a founding member of Mountain View Garden Club in the early 1950’s. A a stone bench and plaque were commissioned / installed on the library grounds to commemorate her in 2012. Then in 2021, current MVGC members undertook the restoration of the garden surrounding the stone pieces. From there, MVGC has continued to develop the gardens adding many plants such as Hostas, Perennials, Rose of Sharon, Iris, Crocosmia and Clara Curtis Mums, the clubs signature plant. These plants and more now line the driveways as you enter the library property.
The gardens are tended by approximately 8-12 MVGC members for all to enjoy who use utilize this very busy Library. And as patrons head indoors they are greeted by two lovely Topiary containers, with ever changing decor, that always get compliments and smiles from those who enter. (also maintained by the club) Occasionally, this garden needs all hands on deck (or in the dirt) to keep it a shining beacon for the community.

Serenity Garden @ Richland Creek
285 Vance Street, Waynesville
The Serenity Garden is a hidden gem just off Richland Creek Greenway where you will find respite for your mind and soul. Nestled between the soothing gurgle of Richland Creek and Farmers Branch Creek, it is mostly a shade garden filled with Hostas, Ferns, Hydrangea and surprisingly, a few Butterfly Bushes. Take the time to sit awhile and watch closely for our resident Blue Bird family.
This is a low maintenance garden, lovingly cared for by approximately 4-6 MVGC members. Additional assistance is provided for mulch and gravel by the Waynesville Recreation Center.

Maggie Valley R & R Garden
4538 Soco Rd, Maggie Valley
This Maggie Valley garden is at the Mary Rathbone Rich Park next to the pavilion along Johnathan Creek. It was originally designed by the local Lions Club as a Sensory Garden and referred to as the R & R Garden. In 2024, MVGC took on the task of bringing this garden back to its original glory through an initiative presented to the Town of Maggie Valley, consisting of a MVGC team of members.
The Sensory Garden is now again lush with many sensory plants all chosen to heighten your sense of touch and smell. There is fennel – with its feathery leaves and a distinctive, sweet licorice like scent and taste, lavender – with a heavenly smell that soothes the soul, the velvety touch of lambs ears‘ soft leaves, and the aromatic cedars.
A circular gavel path takes you through the garden to rest for a time under a grapevine arbored bench to heighten your senses and then off to gaze upon a beautiful mosaic bird house, made by one of our members in 2024.
A team of 8-10 members work together while enjoying this wonderful garden set along the soothing creek.
